''West Coast Crew''s Blog 2012 Well a quick recap of 2011 which is the officiAl year I hooked alot of bass but was moreless the year the Bass hooked ME. With gettin my first boat to learning numerous types of baits, like using a crankbait, a spinner bait, buzzbaits, brushhogs, craws, jigs, and my most favorite the topwater spook. I did a few tournaments last year such as the won bass team tournaments, and I did my 1st FLW tournament in Tennesee as well, with numerous trips to many California lakes on my new boat such as world famous Clearlake and many trips to the Cal delta, as well as trips to Nevadas lake mead i was able to practice and learn about this new sport that I am so addicted too. The westcoast Bass soldiers is still a growing group of anglers with the Gold Soldier ''Kona'' and his team partner Dean Sexton, out on the so Cals playing fields or should I say Lakes. We finished 30th out of 100 boats in our 2011 team championship in which we were pretty stoked about being it was out first season and were still learning everything there is about this sport. We started off our season this year at the Won bass team tournament at Pyrmid lake here in so cal, with cool temps of 43 degrees and up to 50 mph wind gusts we were still able to put 4 nice keepers in our well, at weigh in with what we got, we were able to get a 3rd place finish which got us our first podium and trophy and some prize $.. We are so stoked and look forward to more tournaments this year and learning more and more about this here sport that I just can't get my mind off that they call Bass fishing.... Till then i gotta go cause ''fish on'' 2011 Sep - Just spoke to Kona, and what a week he had practicing for the upcoming WON bass tournament on pyramid lake. Lets not go into the fact that he stopped to fish pyramid on the way home from catching over 100 a day on Cal Delta...anyway he put on a clinic of what the football jig will do in the socal lakes..catching close to 20# a day and his first jig fish of the trip being around 8. The bite seemed to hold up during the week as well so hopes were high going into tourney...until..it never rains in southern california is true most tof the time unless you happen to be fishing a bass tournament as we all know so well...well lets just say with lightning from hell and rain that soaked to the bone the jig bite died and if not for the teams ability with the dropshot which caught them a limit, it was still a struggle. They made it through the day,,a little battered, and in line to get new Columbia Squall suits,,still was a great week of fish catching. Those boys are turning into real veterans! Jun 28 - Summer time is here in southern california and the water temps are in the upper 70's,, top water action is unreal here now and for me as somewhat a beginner/intermediate angler i am now able to see what this top water is really about and what it produces, wow what a feeling..this passed week i took a 9 hour drive up to northern cali, where our top lakes reside,,and i was able to experience all time fishing at the beautiful Clearlake, and also the cal delta.. Both fisheries are amazing. 1st fish at clearlake was a 5 pounder but the 50 plus fish day at the delta holds the bar for me on the most exciting fishing day of my life.. ''i wish i had a partner for this wonderful experience, but my mind will allways remember that day....just like the day i caught the 7 pounder on watts barr.'' back in so cal now and am fishing my local spots again, looking foward to heading back north with my Brother Mccoy here soon, when he comes out. but till then Fish On....Bass Soldiers............. May 10 - Well, now that ive been home from my trip out to tennessee, i very much appeciate the sport that is called Bass fishing even more than ever, from catching fish everyday out there from shore fishing to docks, to catching mass amount of white bass on teleco with a rattle trap almost every cast, to the on steroids, small mouth bass out on south lake holston, and the BFL tournament with a almost 3 hour fog delay in the morning to catching my first two keepers and the butterflys in my belly increasing more as the day progressed, to my first weigh in ever as a co- angler to meeting my first boater partner ever ,and meeting the other bass soldiers that i was able to meet, to fishing with my Brother for about a month and also with my brother in law for almost a week of hard training practice for the tournament...WOW,,what a trip that was.. im home now fishing my Southern California lakes near by and got to experience for my first time catching them on a swimbait, lots of fun im am so looking foward to catching them more on all these new types of bait that i have been taught by My Fishing Professor, and my new Joes custom rods, that i now have... i will be practicing this coming week for my second WON bass team tournament with my partner Dean Sexton on Lake castaic this next sunday May 22nd, Thanks to all and Till next time cause, ''IM ON''...Kona Jan. 25- Just gotta text and call from Kona. They are biting in SoCal,,the guys all put limits in the boat. the water is in the upper 50s and the air is mid 70s. They caught all their fish on an MMIII roboworm, dropshotted along bluffs in 25 feet. Sounds like I will be making plans to head out there in Apr. to film footage of the west coast boys, and teach them how to sight fish those big SoCal TOADs. Awesome day for the West Coast crew, when the rest of us here on the east coast are struggling to even get on the water as cold as its been. 2010 July 15- Yo, Chris and I just got back from a 12 hour Late night stealth mission. Surfed all day and no sleep. We fished from Midnight to 5 am on our float tubes, we were using five inch Yamasenko's and were slaying them..at 5am we got off the water and headed to starbucks for more energy because the next 7 hours we jumped on our buddy Smittys ranger boat at a Private Lake called Vail lake here in So. Cal. Monsoon type weather the day before and tons of lightning the night before must have put them in caves cause It was somewhat slow. we were trying all sorts a things. Chris hooked on a nice fish using his Chatter Bait. and i Hooked my first fish on a Jig but Lost him at the boat,,BOOO. i went back to using the Drop shot, The Purplish finesse worm that worked great 2 days before wasnt doing so good, therefore i started to offer them the Green Pumpkin and that was able to bring in a couple. Lots of Fun, we'll let you know more about us Westcoast soldiers on our next Mission. Till then FISH ON...Kona!! |
